Been driving my facelift S211 for a couple of weeks now and am a bit surprised at the fuel efficiency. My old W210 320CDi - straight six - generally gave me circa 30mpg as an average, the S211 320CDi -V6 - is about the same. I was hoping that it might be a bit better. The figures are for mixed driving, mainly using 60mph+ roads.

I'm thinking that I might get the car given a thorough service, as I'm not 100% certain that it's had anything decent for a while and I'm also running it on Shell V-Max and comparable fuels at present. The car has barely done more than an average of 3000-4000 miles per year over the past few years and I wondered if this may have an influence?

What are other owners' experiences?

If it helps my S211 320cdi Il5 hits 49 (brim to brim)every day on my 84 mile trip to the office 3/4 A Roads sitting at 70 then 1/4 B roads 0-60. Milage is 183k
Obc shows 51mpg so a fraction out

My 2007 s211 280 get 35-37 per tank brim to brim. Obc shows anything from 33 to 37 I have tried loads of things to improve it but nothing has made a difference, no ultimate was 1 mpg worse. Tyre pressures make no difference between 32 all round and 39 front 49 rear.

I think a remap it the only way to go but any fuel savings are lost in insurance premium increase

Cheers, guys. Sounds like mine might be on the low side. I might mention it to my mechanic when I take it for servicing to see what he says.

Incidently, how heavy are your respective right feet? ;)

Mine was so light it needs to be tied down on these tests these really are full hypermiler mode 56mph max, slip streaming avoiding braking etc. normal driving takes it down to 32mpg ish

I fill my shoes with helium ! No i just drive normally but gently overtake when I need to but not like its on fire or anything.

What i do do is change up early before the gbox would do it so that must help

I drive a C220 and get an average of 62.4mpg using the brim to brim method of calculating consumption calculated over 19,647 miles.

That's not by driving like a nun either, my daily commute is 67 miles each way and I normally drive at or around the legal limit.

A big difference between a c220 and an e320 though

Hmm..... perhaps my size elevens are a bit too heavy. Anyone notice much difference between C and S shifting modes?

Hi,

Not a direct comparison but I run a W212 E350 CDi saloon and normally see c.39-45 mpg depending on journey.....i do a long motorway / A road journey twice a week and a daily 20 mile commute. I generally drive it in S mode.

Your low mileage might be a factor. If engine not getting up to temp etc.

Fuel consumption will decrease in winter as well from experience of running various diesel cars.

Might be worth giving your car a longer run and see if that improves things?

Colin

I've noticed s mode gives slightly better than c mode

My 2006 C320CDI V6 S203 use Shell Nitro all the time with Two Stroke mix

Use S Mode permanently

Red line it everytime it`s used

Mway 70+20 = 38mpg

Town = 34 ish

Has a remap and noticed constant higher speed is more economical than std.....more economical as not so long on the road.....Lol

Once did 44.6mpg @ 50mph for 18miles but got bored...bought a Merc. to drive and not pamper.

Lol - reminds me of the time I tried to see how efficiently I could drive my W210. I managed to get into the low 30 mpg area over a 6 mile drive, but was as bored as anything and gave up after a week. Driving it normally I got about 23-25 mpg.

I had a ride of about 25 miles today, largely along country lanes at about 45-60 mph and at one point had got up to 36 mpg. I've certainly noticed that, like the 210, stop - start town driving kills the mpg.
