fuel gauge faulty - need advice

Hi

I have a W203 C class on an '03 plate. Now I may or may not have a problem with a faulty fuel gauge. Let me explain...

My car is parked outside on my drive overnight - the driveway itself is on a gradient. When I get up in the morning to goto work - I find that the fuel gauge is always under-reading and isn't showing the correct amount of fuel in the tank.

So I get to work, do my time and when I finish approx 8 hours later and start her up - the fuel indicator is now showing the correct amount of fuel in the tank. The office car park is absolutely level BTW.

So my initial thinking is that it may have something to do with the fact that this is down to my driveway and the fact that its on a gradient. Having said that - I haven't had this problem with my previous car (Honda Civic) or an Audi A4 which I was given the use of as a courtesy car.

Both of the fuel gauges in those cars read correctly once I had set off to work.

So the question is - is there a problem or is this normal behaviour? I have read about faulty fuel senders but was under the impression that this mainnly affected early models.

advice appreciated.

Most cars with flat tanks display this behavior, it's due to the position of the fuel level senders.
