On way home from work today i could smell diesel via the air vents. I was hoping it was the car in front! Any way, a quick look under bonnet confirmed my worst fears, it was my car! Fuel is dripping on to drive belt at front left hand side of engine, even when switched off. Any ideas what it could be and will it need a costly visit to garage?

If it's dripping it must be after either the lift or main fuel pumps.

There is a valve at the front of the fuel rail known to leak.

If you take off the engine covers, you should see the leak.
I have experience such things like this and they have just bben a problem with the plastic diesel pipes.

cracked fuel pump!!, this happened last year on my c270. mobilife couldn't fix at home, the pump is about £600.

Fuel Shut Off Valve also leaks, as it has plastic fittings. I have had 2 fitted to mine!

Yea just picked my car up today. Took the engine cover off and found the leak at the plastick line. Any chance of a part number for this part? (the plastic bits and i think its 2 pieces) Let me know ASAP please cos i need to order from the supplier but they need the part numbers. Thanks alot.

If the fuel is dripping so much that you can smell it while driving, I'd try not to drive it - diesel + rain + motorcycle = death.

For part numbers see this site:

Although it isn't as up to date as the proper WIS system, it will put you in the right area.

Took car inti indy today, confirmed it was the HP injector pump Pt No 612070001/80. As MB don't supply service parts, it's a replacement pump job at a a cost of £270 +Mr Brown's share + labour, approx £400. I was then given a Tel No for a Diesel specialist in Ipswich 'DIESO'S' who may be able to fix it . Contacted them for a price but need t see car and faulty pump before giving quote. Any suggestions to what i should do? The leak is from the top wher two faces meet and secured by 4 x allen bolts, did think about having a go my self but wasn't sure what i may encounter along the way.

Any info would b appreciated.

Keith
