Am I right in thinking the fuel light comes on when 8ltrs remaining?
My car conks out at around 34miles after light comes on, I'm doing about 30mpg which I work out to be about 6.5miles/ltr. Running highly filtered waste veg oil.
So at 8ltrs remaining I should have about 50 miles?

The fuel gauge seams to drop very fast and when I run out of fuel the gauge is at the bottom just below the 'yellow box' (light)

I changed my fuel strainer about 2 months ago, could this be blocking again? I remember DM saying he had to do his twice! bummer!

i would say there is probably plenty of cr@p still floating around in the bottom of the fuel tank if you've been running on veg (as it basically will clean the inside of the tank - unless you removed and fully cleaned it) - its probably clogging the strainer again yes. saying that, once the light comes on i consider it requiring more fuel.... i dont know how many miles i have left - i wouldnt rely on it being 50 miles etc personally. if the light functions then thats good enough as its a good warning of it being low.... i wouldnt then rely on there being X amount of fuel after then - especially when running on veg

Andy's fuel tank was spotless IIRC the last time with the strainer change. I think you should be able to do 50 once the light in on?

Light comes on...I fill up. In fact I have an inbuilt paranoia about running out of fuel as being simply unforgivable. Therefore it's not often my car drops below a quarter tank.

Mild OCD so I can live with it:rolleyes:

I pushed mine yesterday, got to just under the red before filling coming back from Newquay, thought I may make it back but saw sense and put some in. 83 miles on a tenner! Yipee!

Not at all, a perfectly sensible way to travel.

I HAVE to fill it to the top, I can't just put £20 in etc. If I am doing a long journey, 200 miles etc, then I HAVE to fill up beforehand, I can't be doing with a fuel stop interfering with the trip.

OCDs are good

When my light comes on I have 15 litres left, I was always of the opinion that fuel light = 10% left. This doesn't ring true on a lot of cars nowdays.

Dave!

Thats as good as I could get it, about 2 months ago.
Think I'll live with 30 miles to go but even if the strianer is blocking the gauge still indicates empty!
