Started the car this morning and noticed a loud humming noise coming from the underside of the car near the back.

I immediately suspected the fuel pump. True to form, the car didnt like more than about half throttle before misfiring and kangarooing suggesting fuel starvation.

Anyone know if fuel pump failures are common or whether the noise could be caused by something else such as a blocked fuel filter or something. I dont really want to spend money on a new pump only to find a filter blockage was causing the problem.

ECP lists the pump at £58, should I take a chance on their one or spend the big money on the genuine article?

Any ideas welcome.

Might be the fuel pump relay on its way out?

I thought the same but the noise is definately coming from the rear and I thought (might be wrong) that the relay was up near the fuse box.

Just checked and ECP sell the Genuine part for £69 so that side is a no-brainer
