Chaps, do you know if there's an easy way to change the fuel sender unit without having to take the tank out? Undid the 4 nuts, pulled the nozzle through and pulled the tank back & forth as much as possible, but it seems that there's just not enough room to put the sender unit in.

OK, the tank was taken out today in order to replace the sender unit. Turns out the tank was slightly deformed which i assume was due to a blocked charcoal canister and this is why the sender unit didn't fit straight in - i also used to get a 'donking' sound every now and again within the tank as i was driving along.

Had to put a piece of wood in the tank and bash it back out with a hammer in order to reshape it - it took a bit of time, but the sender unit fitted in after some effort.

Anyway's, i managed to purchase a used sender unit and charcoal canister for £30 on ebay and not only do i have a working fuel gauge now, it's no longer making the donking sound!
