Fuel Shortages ?

Has anyone else experienced fuel shortages during this bout of adverse weather ?

Last night I needed Diesel for the works van and pulled into a station - only to find they had no Diesel and only a limited supply of petrol . Tried another couple of stations on the way home to find the same thing .

This morning , took junior down to the childminders in the 500 and decided to fill up as it was down below 1/4 tank - the local Tesco had no fuel at all . The very expensive station in the village had fuel but I drove on , got petrol in Ardrossan ( I had to go there anyway ) but none of the stations I passed ( about seven ) had any Diesel .

In the end I took the 500 to work , with a couple of jerrycans in the boot , and got Diesel in Hamilton , where they seemed to have plenty .

Having spoken to my family in Bo'ness , I know they have between 3 and 4 feet of snow there , only 5 miles or so from the Grangemouth refinery from which all the Scottish petrol stations are supplied .

Having spoken to a few colleagues today , several others commented on difficulties obtaining fuel . It does seem mainly to affect Diesel users , no doubt as this is now the most widely used fuel , but many stations are running low on petrol as well .

Please just be aware , and only buy fuel if you really need it - 'panic buying' would only worsen the situation .

Don't know if it is affecting other areas ?

I blame c63 drivers .......................

No diesel in Weybridge last night, shame it was 121.9p/litre advertised. Forced to using a motorway services on M40 at 129.9litre, but that was not as bad as on the way down. Shell Vpower, 139.9litre in Charnock Richard services.

You have been warned...

I have been getting 14MPG today so not too happy about that. No surprise though as I spent an hour is almost standstill traffic and it was -7 at the time.

I hahve 3/4 tank of diesel but will fill up in the morning as I don't like getting lower than that at the best of times, let alone when there are possible shortages.

Engine off, rest function on ;)

Engine off, rest function on ;)

I did consider switching off but we were crawling VERY slowly almost all the time so it wouldn't work.

Also no point putting it in neutral so spent most of my time with my foot on the brake (probablu annoying the people behind).

What is a bit annoying is that when cold the revs sit at 900 instead of 600 and this results in a faster "creep".

Engine off, rest function on ;)

engine on and off + rest function = call to mobilo

two of the most intensive things the car can do. Id rather take my chances and leave the engine on regardless. Stop start will never be enabled on any of my cars.

Nah, the car will start, it disables the functions if the battery is low....

Its fab when waiting for someone.

I will be clearer though, engine on for a long stint, say 1hr then off with rest, for about 30mins, then on again, not lots of bursts as you are right battery die.

Excuse my ignorance but what does the rest function do when the engines off ***?

RESidual heaT function.

Switch off engine and press REST button. It keeps blowing air through the vents as long as the battery charge is above a certain level, so if the car is cold the warm air keeps circulating, and if the A/C has been on it keeps the residual cool air blowing round.

Works well. Interested to hear what problems people see with it through from the post above.

Just watched the STV news and fuel shortages across Scotland are now getting media coverage - reportedly stations all over Scotland are running out due to tankers not getting through .

I had to drive around to get petrol on Tuesday as most stations round here are sold out ; this morning even the expensive station in the village had no fuel .

Once the media draw attention to this , the situation can only worsen .

BTW , most shops hereabouts have no bread either !

Edit - BBC also carrying the story

Those guys from Ice Road Truckers need to take over the deliveries! They will surely get through!

thats funny ;) the roads in grangemouth are pristine. Not a jot of ice or snow anywhere.

I think the reports suggested the roads elsewhere were the problem .

Having said that , my folks in Bo'ness , 5 miles from Grangemouth , still have a couple of feet of snow .
