On a 1999 CLK 320 the fuel tank overflows on to my feet if I try to fill the tank more than about 3/4 full. It seems to flood out from near the top of the tank, have you any advice on how to fix this?

First...don't smoke.
Second get a new (or used) tank.

The tank will have to come out...unless there is a seal or something at the top which can be fixed in situ.

In any case this is dangerous situation...and working on a leaking petrol tank is also dangerous.

Locate exactly where it's leaking from. Could just be a breather hose.

are you sure it's not coming from underneath,as the pipes from the pump/filter do perish and leak under tank pressure.

My Clk has a fuel leak when full from a short rubber type hose behind the drivers side rear wheel arch liner, probably worth a look around there before doing anything drastic with the tank.

Thanks spike60, that could be it. Did petrol just flood out when the tank was near full?
Do I just have to remove the wheel arch liner to check it?
