I have a e350 auto but cannot select manual mode and the car is driving with what it seems is reduced power, also it will not go into 9th gear and there are no warning lights on. sometimes when I first set off manual is available but it shortly goes off. very perplexing.

The car really needs to be put on Star Mercedes diagnostics to find your problem.
Reduced power points to limp mode.
If you have an independant Mercedes tech in the area with Star, that would be preferable to using the main dealer simply because of the labour rates.
