G Tech

Er no offence but a trip back to school may be in order! Hot air balloons rise because of buoyancy - principly the weight of the air in the balloon is less than the weight of the air it has displaced.

I think you mean higher density cooler air.

i know what i was meaning, air is measured in volume. the warmer it is the bigger the volume. so 1 ltr of air warmed up will expand to more than 1 ltr. but the wieght of the air expanded is still the same.

if you stick it in a a bag and warm it the, bag expands. if you stuff it in an cylinder, the cylinder pressure increases. the weight remains constant. Same as floating a ship if you get my meaning.

But I know what you are saying and you are right. I was just making a point that air itself doesn't weigh more or less when warm. it expands or contracts so its volume increases.

Air can be measured in all sorts of ways - pressure, temperature, volume, weight - what I think you mean is a closed volume system - air weighs less when heated because of a reduction in mass per unit volume - in a constant volume system it makes no difference - though it has more energy. Obviously this is assuming a constant gas state.

well that is certainly a good way of putting it!

:D

Having tested all I wish to test my G tech is now for sale. PMs please

I've been enthralled by this thread so I bought a g-tech specifically for my 300TD.

As I type I'm sat in the car accelerating waiting for my first 0-60 time. When I reach 60, I will post my results - this could be sometime tomorrow or the day after depending on the weather and the wind direction LOL:rolleyes:

Lets hope the tank of diesel holds out for the run.:D

Hopefully you will finish typing before the vehicle reaches 30 mph? ;)

A nice white bandana, rising sun, national health wire rim spectacles.... get the picture? :) :)

Good luck

You can all laugh (42mph by the way and climbing), but by the time you lot have joined the motorway, had your road rage, narrowly avoided a crash with an artic, dodged the middle lane chaps, slowed for the camera and then arrived at your destination - I'm still gently trying to coax her out of second gear :p

43mph and still going up..........

has that Glacier passed you yet? it was certainly catching you up at one point!

Too strong a head wind!! ;)

I'm told that ensuring the tailpipe is pointing straight back will help with both acceleration and top speed, plus the black smoke goes straight into the face of tail gaters (just joking) :D :D

You can't beat a good old fashioned, clinker built wooden displacement boat!!!

John

just consider yourself lucky you haven't got a 250TD...

Edit: oops.

Hi Ian,
That is a really impressive 0 - 60mph time. Is your car a standard CLK?

I ask this because Scumbag's car is a real lean, mean flying machine, but his car appears to be slightly slower?

My mate scumbag said:
Right, the best i got was 4.82 and 2 other runs sub 5 seconds.

the fastest run was set in C mode! it was 4.91 in S. but for some reasons on the road we used i had traction issues on change up to second.

Regards,
John the curious

John,

Yep, bog-standard CLK 55. In fact, it's even due for new plugs.

There are so many variables involved in 0-60's, it's not really the best yard stick for comparison purposes. In-gear acceleration or 1/4-mile ET's are much better because they're less affected by traction issues.

Looking at Scumbag's post, my launch technique was a little more complex... traction control off, brake-stall to 1,500rpm and roll-on the throttle off the line in order to minimise wheel-spin in 1st. Stamping on the throttle results in wheel-spin all the way through 1st gear.

Cheers,
Ian.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the 'rapid response' ;) Hopefully scumbag can take onboard your tips.

Regards,
John

Just to keep you all posted the proud owner of my G tech is...................................Addy1983, who will be updating you on his figures in due course!
