Couple of weeks old now, havent seen a post on it:

By request of the Pope, Head of the Catholic Church, himself, Mercedes has made a one-off open-top G 500 Popemobile which took over two years to develop. The Pope will use the Vatican Mystic White Cabriolet for his Wednesday audiences on St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

Besides this G 500 Cabrio, the Pope also has an M and S-Class at his disposal. Mercedes provided their first car to Pope Pius XI in 1930, a Nurburg 460 pullman limousine. And even though the Popemobile has almost 300 hp at its disposal, it is not likely to be driven fast or taken off-road.

The new Popemobile is equipped with a folding windscreen and hand-rails. The interior is of course white too and the access steps in the rear are lined in red.

In future, Pope Benedict XVI will present himself to the 40,000 or so pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square in a shining white, open-top Mercedes-Benz G-Class during his public audiences on Wednesdays. The new "Popemobile" was created over a two-year development period in close consultation with the Vatican, and has now been personally handed over to the Holy Father.

This open official car, which the Head of the Catholic Church requested for use during fine weather, was developed by Mercedes-Benz on the basis of the G 500. It is equipped with a folding windscreen and hand-rails, and like its predecessors it is painted in the Vaticanmystic white finish. The interior is likewise white, and is accessed via steps lined in red at the rear. The Pope holds his audiences in a standing position, so that he is easily visible to all his flock.

The Holy Father is continuing a long tradition with the new Popemobile from Mercedes-Benz. Pope Pius XI was the first to receive a Mercedes-Benz as an official car in 1930 - a Nürburg 460 Pullman limousine. Over the following decades Mercedes-Benz regularly provided the Vaticanwith automobiles which had been specially converted for the use of the Holy Father.

Today the Pope has several Mercedes-Benz cars at his disposal. In addition to the new G 500 Cabriolet, the fleet currently includes M and S-Class models with special protection.

Doesnt look too safe if you ask me, fold down bullit-proof windows?!?

He's got too much money that Pope !! ;)

How much has that cost ? did God front up the cash ?

I wonder if he has AMG pedals ? :D

Not too keen on the colour..........:bannana:

Why does he need a G500 if it's just gonna potter about ?

Should have had a 320CDi ....

See, the Pope's not interested in saving the world , which his boss created by the way ..... that's not gonna get him his annual bonus is it ?

Haha

Not just any G wagen...but a 500...wow...

One question...as already been said...why not just get a 320cdi or a 420cdi engine...?

Ah, but you forget that it runs on Holy-Unleaded

It should run on Holy-Water ...

Actually, they probably never fill it up , it runs on faith .... :D

mmmm, I might try singing the same song...it seems to work after all...

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me, a Mercedes-Benz, my friends all have horses, I must make amen(s)" ...ok, it may have gone off key there. Bless you. Bless you all this Sunday.

To be added on ebay pretty soon...

If Mercs were good enough for Hitler (and other dictators around the world), then why can't the Pope join in?
