Hi all,

I am new to the forum and am sorry for asking a question straight off the bat.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2011 g55 amg which has been imported from the middle East. It has 60,000miles on the clock. There is no service book. The seller has given me the VIN number so I can contact mercedes to check the service details. The car looks in mint condition. He is willing to sell for £35k. I will be getting a mechanic to give it a once over before purchase. I was just wandering the following

1. Has anyone purchased an imported car from middle East? Is there any pitfalls i should be looking for???

2. Is there any way to verify the mileage. He has little in the way of paperwork.

3. Any major mechanical or electrical issues I should be looking for??

4. What are peoples experiences about the longevity and reliability of these cars???

I'd be very grateful to hear from anyone who can help!

Middle East registered cars are LHD. Are you happy with that?
If its RHD it may have been shipped to the ME from Japan.
Verifying the mileage may be impossible.

The M113k engine is a solid well designed unit with very little cause for concerns over reliability and longevity.
If it seems to lack power after a couple of quick bursts, the intercooler pump may be at fault but its an inexpensive item (£120 ish).
If possible, get it checked over by a Mercedes independent specialist. I'm not aware of who is in your area.

A car like that from the Middle East is almost certainly going to have been used extensively on sand dunes. That could mean extra wear on lots of components...

Hello and welcome. Steve84N beat me to it ^^^infrequent air filter changes would be a major concern for me with this car , unless it smokes badly you have no way of knowing how much wear might have been caused if it had not had regular air filter changes....until it starts drinking loads of oil or the scrolls in the supercharger stop performing .

G wagens are reportedly rock solid on build quality.

Edit ^^ just realised G55 has no supercharger.

It does Pete. The 2011 model the OP is asking about is the last year the M113k was used in the G55.

"The 2011 Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG comes as a supercharged SUV sporting a 500 horsepower V8 that'll lead you to believe that you can conquer any terrain. To help you along with your ambitions of total road domination, the G55AMG comes standard with AWD"

It's built like a tank!!if you've never driven one before, then it will be somewhat strange- the steering is "leisurely" - it also drinks.....a lot!! Be prepared for 13mpg and single figures playing with it. It's a great sense of occasion and gets positive reactions wherever it goes; nothing else like it on the road.

I wouldn't buy a high performance car without any maintenance records if the vehicle isn't dirt cheap.
Cars from ME has every rubber part dry rotted, you have to probably replace everything for fresh rubbers.

Can't you find a more suitable car in UK?

I wouldn't touch that even if it was cheap
Check its history?

Yep. Going to take a serious look at it when the full listing is up

Labor is cheap in the middle east so mtc should be good. Get it checked out. See if dealership can validate history and if both check out. Buy it

RHD coming up on Collecting Cars soon

Interior is not to my taste but that could be rectified (or you might like it!)

2006 MERCEDES-BENZ G55 AMG
This looks Ok , but ad says 'Iridium Silver' . Might be the photos but my car is 2006 in iridium silver (775U) and is way lighter in colour than this.

Might be wrapped?? All will become clear once the auction is live

Few MOT fails and a colour change from Green to silver which is a shame. Wonder if it was accident repaired looking at repeated headlight alignment faults at MOT 🤔🤔

Looking through the bills it was in km for that mot so no worries about mileage

Plus numerous oil leaks and mileage
Minor oil leaks not necessarily end of the world. Big shame it wasnt left in original green. Will be interesting to hear what the seller has to say
