Anyone on here like their garden. Other than my cars and outings with the caravan both of which are out of bounds at the moment I do like my garden.
Even as a young lad I looked after my mother’s garden after losing dad when I was only 13 years old.

After getting married all three of our houses had neatly kept gardens but my current one is where I’ve spent most of my time and effort keeping it nice. My brother who was a head green keeper for most of his working life was a great help with forming my lawns after digging up both the previous ones. I remember getting a huge load of sand to add into the already well worked soil and thinking I had ordered to much. I’m sure I could have doubled the quantity.

I power rake both lawns on a regular basis through the season usually every couple of months but today I decided it was time to get the big tools out and dig out the hollow tine aerator and boy is this a work out.
The last time this was done my brother gave me a hand but sadly he passed away two years ago so I’ve been thinking about him today. I can guess what would have to say with the way our country is with this lock down as he said it as he thought whether it was right or wrong but I do miss him.
Had it not been for Covid 19 I doubt this work would be done as I would be swanning around somewhere with the top down

Now where did I put that Gin !

Here are a few pics of mine:

I have the space for a nice garden but I haven't got the inclination. I have a decent sized lawn , no borders, no flowers, no gazebos but two young grandchildren who absolutely love it. Suits me , I'd rather wash the car.
I admire all keen gardeners and would love a landscaped garden but would want it to be self maintaining.

Just in 20 minutes ago after completing the rear lawn but I reckon I’ll need a rest tommorow.
Missus says I’m “aff ma heid”. Just settling down to the telly watching Our Girl.

At present we are mid makeover , decking removed , bin shed built , lovely new porcelain slabs just laid , house +garage painted grass being replaced next week and that is it sorted for the summer if we get one. It has been designed to need minimal maintenance , just the grass to cut and pots to water - just the way we like it.

Spent almost every day over the last week doing something in the garden , but tomorrow it is a car day - new rear discs and pads for the Subaru followed by a deep clean of the boys Fiesta.

Well I finished a extension just before this virus hit, since then I have done various things in the garden, but the one area that looks awful is the grass, with two surface water pipes under the ground and various bald patches it needs new turf, now up in scotland laying turf may well be ok at this time of the year, but where I live it is so dry we get less than 20 inches of rain a year that the best time is October,so I thought I had put that job on the back burner but SWMBO bought some grass seed and sprayed it around,it was funny to see her chasing wood pidgeons off the back lawn, she then put plastic bags on sticks to scare them away,I watered the seed in last night,it was all laying on the bare patches,Corona madness is alive and well here.

I love my garden, and more so my pond with my little family in (18 koi carp),

I have two ponds in my garden and built a pump well inside my greenhouse. This lifts the water from pond 1 through a waterfall down into the raised pond 2 then another waterfall back into pond 1.

I also had several types of fish including Koi. I had two identical Ghost Koi and one with a red mouth which my grandson called Mrs Lipstick. Sadly I’ve lost the lot. I had two separate visits from a Heron then I fitted a tailored net to protect the remaining fish. One of the “twins” died suddenly then just over a year ago my missus commented she could not see any fish. At that time I reckon I still had around 12 fish and when I netted the bottom of the pond I picked up a chunk of fish flesh.

The entire stock had been eaten by a mink which obviously managed to slip in under the net at an awkward corner wher it wasn’t fixed down. We have a fishing pond just outside the village, mit’s actually three very large ponds where fishermen spend there days rod fishing and the owner could tell me he had been troubled with mink so I reckon they managed to get to mine about half a mile away.
Since then I just can’t get my mojo back to replacing the fish just to get them eaten up.

Zipdip. I would speak with some seed specialists as there are some grass seed which survives better in extreme dry conditions, just a pity my brother wasn’t with us as he could have advised me on this.

I tried to post a photo but it says file is too large yet it allowed me to post photos direct from my pad on other topics
