Any Garmin users amongst us? Thinking of installing one where the ashtray is in the 211 and wondered what would be a suitable set. Fancied the 660 as per here Garmin NUVI 660 FM Receiver V10
Understand it's an out of date model but does that matter? Also, would it work with just the flip out antennae or would I need an extension aerial?
Any suggestions for alternate sets please? I did think maybe the bluetooth would be handy as getting shot of the in-car 6310i would be a bonus.

If it has the look you want then I cant see the problem with it being out of date. As long as it has upgradeable maps then it should be fine.

i quite like my Garmin but the one i got isnt very upgradable apart from the maps. they introduced some new stuff showing MPG etc recently but doesnt work on mine, even though its less than a year old..... might be worth checking the compatibility of their extra stuff on their website with the model you are looking at 1st.

also i notice that it says Screen Size: 4:3 on the details..... but has a pic of the 16:9 model. check that out aswell as obviously it wont fit right otherwise.

my one doenst have a flip out antenna. if its going in the ashtray then you may need to make sure the one you get has a plug for an external aerial..... again, mine doesnt.

i prefer my garmin to my wife's tomtom.... the tomtom seems a bit more "toy-ish" with fancy speech etc. however tom-tom's "map share" feature is very good.

cheers

Derek

we've got our Garmin Nuvi (250W) sat in the same place and it works perfectly without the external aerial :)

No complaints about Garmin reliability, it's never taken us down unmade roads, into streams, onto railways etc etc, it's easy to update and quick calculating routes

Reading reviews of them (both Garmin and TomTom) the bluetooth is very iffy and the handsfree quality not good.

Bought a sat nav for daughter for Xmas and I was put off Garmin as there doesn't seem to be any logic in the flow of the model ranges and you can't tell what's new and what's old.
