Car
1998 c250 estate.. my weekend car
on the w202 c250 i have a garret gt25c turbo fitted but on the E300n they have a KKK k14 turbo fitted, from what i can see they both have the 3 bolt exhaust flange so either will fit the standard c250 manifold... just wondering if anyone knows if the kkk turbo as its off the e300 is this a slightly bigger turbo or what... am thinking of getting a hybrid turbo fitted over the winter but was wondering if the e300 kkk turbo would be a much cheaper slight upgrade to the garret gt 25c thats fitted as standard....

anyone got any ideas

cheers

Triple K are good and I've visited their factory in Germany however they did have problems with lubrication on some turbos which lead to a massive recall on some VW models and cost a fortune, I quite frequently hear of triple K's going bang but never on high end cars like Porsche who fit them as standard.

Personally I'm a Garrett man all the high performance Ford and Cosworth engines I've built have featured Garrett turbo's and have been perfect. However only as recently as last week I had my first Garrett turbo fail on my Volvo it destroyed the internals and most of the head components with it, this was down to faulty bearings at manufacture so I'm surprised it actually took 40,000 miles to fail.

Personally I'd stick to Garrett but thats just IMHO probably nothing wrong with triple K's I've jsut never used them after the horror stories I hear

All turbos are only as good as the oil servicing they have received during their lifetime.

I can give you turbo horror stories from all manufacturers especially Garret turbos but that's probably because Garret have a larger OE fitment plan.
