We have no gas supply to our village, and we cook by electric, would it be possible to run a gas cooker from bottled gas, having the bottle outside, obviously.

ok, so how would you fix the pipe to the cooker?
Unless the coocker is made to run on LPG or butane, you'll need to covert it
There are many different models available than run off LPG
There are many different models available than run off LPG, just need
to find a specialist supplier.
Our family home in Scotland has a ragbag of fuel sources including an ancient single cylinder generator with auto switch on capacity because the mains electricity is prone to failure at least once per winter thanks to overhead supply lines to the village. (Also acts an a useful alert that the power has failed if asleep: Thump...........thump.... thump...thump..thump.thump.thump.thump.thump.thump etc, etc)
Oil fired central heating (used as little as possible!)
2x Wood fired stoves (used as much as possible!)
LPG cooker, runs off 2 x 47Kg propane tanks with switchover valve. Seems to last around 5/6 months
A 7 kg propane bottle in my caravan (got 2 with an auto changeover valve) lasts around 15 days. That's fridge, cooker, hot water. Very rarely need the heating on.
So 8 months (say 240 days) from one double the size sounds astonishing, even if used just for cooking
