Recently started experiencing the following common issue - gear stuck in 1st or 2nd and doesn't change back to P or R unless I shut the engine, take the key out and restart.

Had a diagnostic run and fault with the gear selector module.

Question is, do I...
  • Replace second part module from the local garage, 3 month warranty, £290
  • Find one myself for cheaper, no warranty, £?
  • Repair original with ECUTesting, lifetime warranty, £180 + P&P

All the above exclude any labour costs.

Any advice or anyone gone through the same experience?

Are all W203 automatic gear selector the same as I wouldn't like to buy the wrong 1

Surely the 'repair original' option wins.

It's an old car with little value , so if you can afford to have it off the road for the time it takes to get it repaired and you are happy with the company doing it, that must be the best option.

It's what I would do with my 15 year old S203 if needed.
