Hello everyone,
This is my first post here, and I'm reaching out in hopes of finding a solution to a frustrating issue with my 2017 C220d (W205) featuring the 9-speed transmission.
When the engine is already warm and I start the car and go into drive, it initially engages in 1st gear but then immediately shifts to Neutral. This cycle repeats for 3 or 4 attempts before it finally clunks into 3rd gear. Once I’m in 3rd, I can drive normally through gears 3, 4, and 5.
Interestingly, when the car is cold, it operates perfectly, allowing me to access all 9 gears without any issues. However, if the engine warms up and I reverse, then switch back to drive, the problem resurfaces.
Occasionally, the engine management light activates during the process of clunking into 3rd gear. I’ve taken the car to two different garages for comprehensive diagnostics, but neither was able to identify any fault codes. I recently had a transmission service performed by PSC Autocentre, hoping that a transmission fluid change would resolve the issue, but unfortunately, it didn’t help.
One diagnostic result showed a fault code: B1F4500 - The starter battery has excessive resistance. I suspect this might only relate to starting the car and may not be related to the transmission problems.
Has anyone experienced similar issues or found a resolution? I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions to help resolve this gear shifting problem.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
