So I have a 2013 Mercedes-Benz E250 Cdi AMG Sport Coupe. I haven't had it long but since owning it I have had an issue.

At first I thought the car was misfiring but it idles perfectly and can hold at any revs with no issue. Underload I am not so sure about but I believe the issue is with the automatic transmission.

If am driving along the car "feels" like its misfiring and by that you get that feeling inside the car that the engine isn't happy, I can see the rev counter moving a couple of hundred rpms. The feeling is more like the gearbox trying different gears. But the gearbox display just stays on D3 or 4 or 5 or whatever gear its in, it doesn't show it moving around. The issue is worse in E driving mode, slightly better in S and a lot better but still there in manual.

Just wondered if anyone had anything like this before? There are no lights on the dashboard, car starts fine, everything works apart from this.

More apparent when driving on the dual carriageway, not so much around town, but when cruising you can definitely notice it

What's the mileage on the car? When was the transmission last serviced?

Also, it really needs to go on STAR (or, at least, on iCarsoft or similar).

Mileage is 95000. No idea when the transmission was last service, the car itself had a service two years ago.

The electronic service record doesn't show anything, I mean literally nothing.

Depending on how many miles it's done (and as a diesel I presume 'a few) in the last two years the car itself should be serviced, so it's overdue by 12 months itself.

That said, the gearbox every 40k to 60k miles

Rather than just paying £300 or so for a gearbox service though, best get codes read as it could be a part that is failing.
It might not be, but worth knowing first

As above.

My suggestion is that you book a transmission service with an MB specialist (not a franchised dealer), and agree with them that they will read the fault codes first using STAR, then advise if they believe that a transmission service will resolve the issue.

If you buy an iCarsoft MB V2 or V3, then the most you can do is erase the fault codes and see if they come back (but make a note of the fault codes before erasing them). The nature of transmission faults is such that even if you identify the issue, there's not much that can be done DIY to repair the fault.

In the event that the fault codes are erased and do not come back then all is well, but you'll still need to get that transmission serviced due to age/mileage....

Thanks for the advice. Will get it booked in with somewhere, a friend has a code scanner but its a TOPDON ArtiDiag EU so don't know if that will read any codes

If you just bought it , get the garage to sort it out under warranty ?

Obviously, assuming that it wasn't bought in a private sale.

Before doing an ATF change I would get it plugged in. ATF changes on the most part wont fix bugger all. Most people that are not Technicians and plug a car in for diag work wont be able to interpret the information they have (especially a FWD gearbox like this) so it is often best left to an experienced MB tech using a genuine Star (Xentry) as they will have access to software updates and latest repair methods.

In this case it may not show much at all so may be a tricky one.

It was a private sale unfortunately, never noticed it when I first drove it but I find you can miss so many things in the excitement

Thanks for the reply :) I thought these were rear wheel drive cars? Or have I got it wrong?

Maybe that’s why they sold it ?
You still have protection even from private buyers .

Yes, but through the courts (not via Trading Standards), and only if you can prove that they knew about the fault when they sold you the car... so in practical terms - No.

Ok a bit of an update. Had a long drive today, drove perfectly. Don't think its a transmission issue.

Gave it a code scan and got back a stored code which was P245328. The input for differential pressure sensor 1 in the diesel or gasoline particulate filter has a malfunction. The signal offset is outside the permissible range.

No light on the dash though?

Is this likely to cause the stutter? The stutter seems worse when engine up to temp

That's usually dpf pressure sensor at fault

Yeah indeed, but is that likely to cause or could cause the stuttering
