gearbox going to F mode -A168 52 plate

Neighbour comes over today and says his wifes A class has just started playing up. Auto gearbox is showing F in the dash. I sent him off to get it read on a STAR machine - this is what it said.

Can the jury tell me what they think is wrong please. ATF was checked (how do you do that on an A class?)

It will probably need a new selector module.

There is another code which is interesting. The low pressure one in FTC. This maybe a valve body on the way out or a solenoid fault.

Top tip: NEVER buy a auto 168. They go wrong all the time.

Yes - I know this Olly but its a bit late for the neighbour!

What should the cost be to change the 2 things you mention? Would that solve the F code problem or could there be other issues lurking 'behind' what you see on that sheet?

No other issues that I can see.

Just change the selector module. That should sort it.

It will need coding with a Star too when fitted and make sure all of the codes are erased.

Ok...so where does the selector module hide? How much/long to fix?

It is the gear selector lever and the module it attaches to. W/S switch attaches to it.

How much for the part? I am not too sure. Less than £500 I think???

Fitting takes at least an hour.

I will check with Merc tomorrow for prices. Is it all accessible from inside the car - i.e. remove centre console and locate from there (sorry for the Alexandre Dumbass questions but I have no idea about A classes)

Below is the report from the garage and their diagnosis:

"In our opinion with the fault codes which are present we believe that there is a damaged clutch pack inside the gearbox which is causing the problem. We recommend that the gearbox is removed and the relevant parts replaced"
