Gearbox issue!!

Hello fellow members. I am having a gearbox issue I think. I drive a 2006 CLK220cdi, automatic. Lately, as I drive and I accelerate and I let off the gas the car as it seems it goes into neutral and when i try to accelerate again it revs up and it seems it does not engage into gear. Moreover, when I decelerate and it downshifts it kicks into gear and I can feel it. Sometimes as well, the paddle shifters do not work and the manual mode as well doesnt work.
Did anyone had a similar problem? Can anyone give me any insights? Thank you!

Obvious things first- check the gearbox fluid level according to manufacturers instruction. Check when the fluid and filter were changed last. Check for obvious leaks- partcularly round the main electrical connector. Then get it on the MB Star system to check for fault codes.

Two things to do are check fluid level as said above and get the codes read from the gearbox
