gearbox issue

hi all, im new to this site and hope im posting this in the right place, i have a CLK 230 compressor sport, 1998, i have a problem with my gearbox, when i first move the stick into drive, i get a graunching noise, its also very pronounced when i move break the peddle s lowly . Although i know all my brakes are hydraulic, it somehow seems to be coming from the rear breaks.and sounds like a dry linkage or push rod noise,the gearbox runs perfectly silently when the car is in motion, no graunching at all.Has anyone had this before? any help would be much appreciated. regards jethro

You are really best to get it on a lift and have a look. It c ould be the parking brake shoes amongst many other things.

Thanks for that, i dont have access to a ramp but i do have axle stands. regards jethro
