Evening all.
I need to locate the gearbox microswitch on a 91 ce 300. Could any one shed any light as to where and what im looking for? Is it on the shifter or the box itself? Thanks.:dk:

Not quite sure what you are refering to as the gearbox microswitch, what are you trying to do?

2nd 3rd and drive all do the same thing, changes through 2 gears only. no top gear i read somewhere there may be a microswitch that lets the gearbox know when drive is selected. would this be true or am i way off base?

are you flooring it? when doing so can you actually feel "click" under your right foot? if not, try it again, put it in D and count gears then report to us. are you using "S" or "E" setting by gearstick?

Kick down works , click as norm. E is the switch position still only 2 gears

ejector seat

the switch is located near the ejector seat switch maybe there shorting out on each other..just a thought

Have the usual checks been done?

Fluid level & condition including the filter, gear linkage cable & vacuum modulator adjustments which should be considered routine.

If these are okay and the kickdown switch is known to be functioning as intended, then it might be the valve body within the transmission itself.

Hi check the oil condition & smell it to see if its burnt. I think some of these transmissions pick away in 2nd gear so you have 2nd gear & 3rd gear & no 4th is this correct if so does the car try & change into 4th gear then rev up. also you could check the pressure cable to see if its damaged or out of adjustment these transmissions have a common fault with worn sealing rings on the K2 clutch but the transmission will try to change into 4th gear then rev up

Thanx coalville , turned out to be the smallest piece of rubber i have ever seen. lodged in no.4 piston in the valve body. I have no idea how my man found it. Ive been tinkering for months renewing vac lines , transmission fluid and filters etc... Then decided to call Otto. Remarkable man, took the car monday morning and returned at teatime having stripped the valve body assembly and putting it all back together.Beast is running like a dream and saving me the £70 cost for the repair in 1 week alone on fuel.

Mr Automatic, Thanks for your reply , I dont think 3rd gear was involved as i could only run at 40 mph at 4000 rpm 50 mph if i redlined it. Cars working fine now thanks again for your post.
