Simple I thought, the car has done almost 90k I'll change the gearbox oil, I had the right synthetic stuff in the shed which I recently purchased from Opie Oils so Off I started.

Jacked the car up, placed the axle stands and removed all the under covers, placed the 14mm oil drain key in the drain plug S!!t too small, I need a 17mm one. Replaced the covers drove to Halfrauds where I exchanged my new 14mm key for a new 17mm one & drove 6 miles home.
Jacked up the car, placed the axle stands removed the covers, placed the newly purchsed 17mm key in the filler plug S!!T too big..

Replaced the covers, packed away the axle stands & jack, & went for a beer.

Turns out I need a 14mm key for the filler & a 17mm key for the drain plug

Advice to anyone else doing the job>>>>>>> buy both keys or even a kit, do the job & sell the keys on flea bay after

dont sell tools on after using them, buying stuff as you need it is the best way to build up a collection to pass on to someone else, some of my tools came down from my grandad through my dad to me.

What tools did they pass down? whitworth spanners:D

Pop over to mine and borrow whatever tools you need then drop them back when you're done. ;)

When i changed my oil i just placed a large plastic tray under g/box and unscrewed the sump bolts slowly allowing the oil to drain without using the drain plug.

yeah; some old tools are much stronger than new ones aswell. I often snap up old tools from markets etc if they are in good condition and usually at a bargain price.... sometimes much better than buying a new one from B&Q etc.

Halfords is pretty good though as they have a lifetime gurantee but you need to keep some sort of record of sale or the plastic thing that the socket (or whatever) is stuck to when new.
