My car has gone in to have a gearbox rebuild, 2 years and 20k miles after the previous owner had the glycol issue and just had the box flushed and re filled, new rad etc, rather than properly fixed (He told me he had a rebuild, but didnt).

Anyway, since I have had the car, at high speed (65+) there has been a vibration through the car. Had all new suspeion etc, but was still there, although only really noticable on VERY smooth roads, like in france.

Could the fact that the gearbox was not in optimum condion have created that vibration?

If the torque convertor was not properly rebuilt then this could be your issues but sounds more like wheel balancing or maybe a wheel buckled?

Hello, I'm a new member so am unfamiliar with writing on forums. I bought an 04 220cdi with 130k. noticed a slight vibration (when I road tested it) pulling in high gears but heart ruled head. Noticed on service history just had a gear box oil change so previous owner probably thought something was up. Don't know about glycol problem, guess that's a cooler failure? have read recently about a valving problem but don't know enough about the system yet. Changed the prop centre support and bearing( thinking it might have been skipping roaping) but still doing it, worse when sat in a traffic jam and oil gets warm so curious to find out about cooling? failure.

I changed all front suspension, new shocks and springs (drove much better after) 2 x propshaft donuts, prop centre bearing and all discs and pads. It drives like new so i dont mind having done all that, but the biggest difference was 2 rear tyres. I suspect it maybe the front 2 which while they have tread, they are old.

Anyway, the gearbox specialist told me that loads of people who have had the glycol mix into the gearbox just flush the transmission and sell the car, and then months/years later the box fails like mine.

He said it MUST be removed and rebuilt, or there will still be moisture in the box which over time causes issues that I am seeing. (he also has a Toyota in with the same issue....that has lasted 4 years after a flush)

While its expensive, my car will be like new ha ha
