I have a problem with gear selection. Have had faults read and the following has come to light "P0715 Torque Converter input RPM sensor faulty signal"

How easy is it to replace this sensor?

That fault code needs to be tested. Was it done with a Star?

Because just relying on fault codes alone is not that a reliable way of doing diagnosis. The code needs to be "proved" if you want to get it fixed first time.

I do suspect the electrical plate in the gearbox is faulty though ;)

I do suspect the electrical plate in the gearbox is faulty though ;)

That is what I suspect too from the symptoms and having done a bit of research.

I will be entrusting the car to a local specialist so I would hope that they would do a full diagnosis of the problem....

I gather that the electrical plate itself is around £150 + fitting and I guess that the ATF oil and filter etc should be changed at the same time?

PS I am a bit too far away from Portsmouth or I would ask you to look after my car.

Gearbox sorted by Chris Gray, Independent Merc Specialist in Princes Risborough. Traced it back to the Electrical Plate as suspected above. Replaced electrical plate, filter and gearbox oil and now ok, if a little bit poorer!
