Hi
I've just bought a 2016 E220d (the 2013-2016 bodyshape) thst has had A and B services but no gearbox service. The car has done 67k miles - when is one due and what costs should I expect from a non-MB specialist?

Thx

77.500 miles or 5 years . £200 _ £240.

If no history of it being done, I'd personally just have it done for pom.

Hi, you should do your gearbox service now. I am not sure if it is using the newer 9-gear system but the old one goes very funny if not serviced.

As above.

It is not overdue yet, but it will be due on the next service this later this year.

PS - the price above is for an independent specialist. Expect to pay double that at an MB dealer, unless you take-out a Service Care Plan.

I recommend using PCS (prestige car service) in horndean. I’ve got my e220 booked in for Tuesday for a transmission service at a cost of £200 all inclusive. Can’t complain with that !

That’s cheap as the OEM parts cost around £150, make sure they drain the torque converter as you will need 9 litres of fluid.

Surely draining the TC and filling with fresh oil is part of the job ?

Not always, from what I have heard on this forum Mercedes dealers don’t.

I’ve read the same tbh. You’d think that dealerships / specialists would at least advise you about this especially to those who are complete novices when it comes to cars. I’ll definitely be asking them to drain the TC and pay the extra if needed.

PCS have put the the DIY 'how to' on this forum on the 722.6 box.
They know what they are doing and will 100% do the absolute correct job regardless of autobox varient.

I was quoted £220 by an indie in stockton on tees, they also said if its fitted with torque drain plug , some have some dont , so they said. It will be drained . I was quoted £380 for my 9g by the same company.

I think it’s pretty obvious that these guys care about there excellent reputation and keeping it that way ....
Sounds your in great hands there, proper company.

PCS does drain the T/C and oil cooler.

They have devised a method of doing this for vehicles where the T/C does not have a drain plug. My W211 gearbox was serviced by them just after I acquired the car. The overall impression from my initial contact with them to the gearbox service itself was of a very professional operation.

I did my own last week, it takes a little more time to drain the converter, but you will be in safe hands there.

According to Mercedes Uk, my 2017 E Class, gearbox service is at 77500, and NOT at 5years/77500.

So I am assuming the above also applies to your car, and that’s why it hasn’t been done by the previous owner.

But as others have said would get it done for peace of mind.

The 7G+ are 77.5k or 5y.

I think it's correct that the 9g is (officially) 77.5k, no time limit.

The acid test is if they would have included the ATF for free under a Service Care Plan.....
