hi there all. the gearbox is only a few months old and it stuck in Park... it jus wont come out of it. the brake lights are working and there was no lights ever on the dash indicating any problems.

the car is on a slight incline and my dad didnt bother to put the parking brake on. jus stuck it in Park.

Are there way of getting it out of the Park postion. its moves a little but as though if the key isnt inserted.

what do i do???

its S280 W140

Also Had the aa people out and they couldnt get it out off Park. Also treid to push the car up the hill and nothing... just wont come out.

AA dude tried to under the steering part to have a look and check connecters but NOTHING... arghhhh.

any ideas what this could be? just Spent £1600 on a Gearbox soo reali peed off...

Maybe your new box is causing the problem???

Is the park release on the selector working?

I had the same problem with my W220 which has happened to a few 220's that i know. I have not heard of the same problem with the 140 especially with a new gearbox.

MB had to change the ESM Electronic Selector Module £142.65 and the complete Gear lever Module £329.37. Which was covered under Service + fortunately.

For them to release it out of park they had to remove the centre console around the gear lever and one technician held the gear lever and the other had to tap a certain part with a hammer and screwdriver to release it from park, you would not have believed it unless you where there. Get the people to come out that installed the new gear box. Good luck.

gearbox is under warrenty and they said its nothing to do with the gearbox.

he advised there is a fault with the gear selector.

Should i call the AA back and get the car moved to the nearest dealer???

Yes or a very good independent. Where are you ?

Im in Woodford Green (East London). Have no idea where a good local Independant is...

i think edmonton is the local dealer.

There is a park relese detent cable. It it releasing? Remove the trim around the selector and have a look.

ermmm i can change an engine in a car and do the odd lil jobs around the car. but i have no idea how to the that trim off. and there is no guide.
i have done it on a W202 and it was easy. but on this i cant find any screws no nuthing... mite just take it to the dealer

I think that this car has the 722.5 box, if this is the case it could be the cable to the foot brake out of adjustment

As BlackC55 and television have said it's the bolean cable from the brake pedal is set too loose.
Try pressing the pedal really hard when turning the key and then moving the selector.

As I suggested on the other forum on which you sought opinions:
Adjustment of interlock perhaps?
Both BlackC55 and television are thinking along the same lines.
Good luck,
Ron

my clk was towed to the technician this morning. He said the selector is the problem and the entire autobox needs to be replaced. I dont know where to get one and for how much.

Did you try to stick a pen in the slot near the selector to operate is manually? That worked for me but the car was in limp mode.

It may be jammed in place due to the load on it from not using the brake. Get some help to rock it as you try to move it. Engine running,,

BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE CHAPS ROCKING CAR.

Bazzle
