Hello- I am hoping someone with a knowledge of German can help me. What is the German for ' Whitworth Combination or Ring Spanners'?
I am trying to restore an old car and need a set of Whitworth ring spanners.
Many thanks.

Converted using Babelfish

Viel Dank.

:D

Ring Spanner is ringmaulschlüssel or ringschlüssel.

HTH.

mit freundlich grüßen,
Cronos.

danke schon ! I cannot manage the 2 dots over the 'o' of schon!

Err, why do you need to know this in German ?

Can't you just use a metric adjustable spanner?

Oh yes of course  and they can read too ! :D

If you have google toolbar, right click on the page, and at the bottom is 'Translate this page' if you guys didnt know :)

Thank you all. As regards using an adjustable spanner (metric or otherwise) or vice grips, unfortunately in tight spaces, it is not feasible. Believe me, I would not be looking for Whitworth spanners if it was not absolutely necessary. Whitworth ring or combination spanners in a decent make are expensive here eg Gedore or Elora. I am reluctant to invest large amount of money for spanners which are only needed for a specific job. What I found is that they are much cheaper in Germany which is why I am hoping to source them there. Knowing the correct German name for the articles will hopefully prevent any mistakes.

what size spanners do you need,
i have some old spanners in the loft, left to me some time ago.
i wont be needing them,if they are any good to you their yours. :)
postage may cost a bit though

In Germany, they use metric and zoll (literally, "inch"). Whitworth itself does not translate. You could try "BSW", but the German guy I asked has never heard of this.

He's a big Trabant fan, and even those are all metric. He also has a Landrover, which is why he knows about zoll, but not Whitworth.
