Getting back in a Mercedes

Hi all

Need some quick buyers advice. I want another Mercedes back and tomorrow I shall be going to view a 1998 'R' Mercedes E320 Advantgarde. Low mileage, bit high priced but quite a high spec and AMG goodies fitted.

What should I be looking out for? Questions to ask seller?

Thanks.. my W202 had rusty arches..

This W210? (is that correct) has bubbles on rear passenger side arch where the AMG skirt meets the arch. Front passenger side has paint bubbles but no rust on the lip of the arch where the arch meets the bumper.

Mechanically any issues?

i would check the front spring cups....

The W210s are famous for tin worm... that's why I've never bought one.

I'd put the money towards a nice W124 if it were me.

I'm sure there are loads of plus points to them, but the rust is a big turn off for me.

I'm sure there'll be some people on shortly that can advise of any weak mechanical points. Good luck!

It looks like that car will be a pre-facelift car with the M104 engine. So I'd check the head gasket and find out if it's been done.

There a host of other niggly things to check in the guide too.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Rust is the main one though...

It has the 3.2 V6 engine.. is that M104?

I think that'll be the M112 in there...

When you say high price... how high? Because you can get a W211 E240 or E320 for cheaper than you think...

to be honest prefacelift 210s are out of date in and out the car.. a great car none the less id have one over say a new bmw or whatever (thats just me) you can get e280 update 210s for next to 3k.. with under 100k on the clock

Yes thanks.. 99% there.. Found out had slight brain damage.. no jokes please! a few months ago.. 12 months after the accident.. so I'm back and fourth to hospital to sort that out.. Otherwise all good cheers!!
