Greetings, Citizens.

Seeing as how the OT section of MBClub is the fountain of all knowledge, I wonder if anyone here has experience of getting married in Vegas? Myself and Mrs. Gaz are tying the knot there in September and time is ticking, I need to get my finger out and start organising things. I only booked the flights yesterday..

It will be a simple affair. There will be the two of us, two of our friends who live in San Francisco as witnesses and their daughter as our flower girl. A simple civil ceremony (neither of us are religious) and a nice meal for the 5 of us afterwards will do us nicely. My wife and I will then fly on to Hawaii on honeymoon..

There apparently isn't too much paperwork to be done apart from getting the marriage licence, which involves turning up at the licence bureau with proof of identity, signing a form to say we are not close blood relations (who's picking the banjo?) and handing over $60.

I've been looking at the many wedding chapels in Vegas, and the Chapel of the Flowers seems to have a very good reputation (122 out of 142 reviews on Tripadvisor give it 5 out of 5), and from their website it looks very nice. But if anyone else has a personal recommendation, we'd be interested in hearing your views..

Cheers,

Gaz

I don't have any help.....but congrats and all the best for it anyway.

I felt I could do that there too......you won't be doing to whole Elvis tat as well will you?

Do they require a blood test? Most states do.........I got married in the states MA and we had to have blood tests.

I can absolutely guarantee our wedding will be Elvis-free .. Tacky.

We want to get married in Vegas as it's a place we've been to a couple of times before and enjoyed, it's geared up for people who want to get married and we don't want a big fussy affair. It's the first time for me, round two for the Mrs, and we have been together for nearly 10 years so we are as good as married anyway.. it may just be a piece of paper, but we both want that now.

Cheers,

Gaz

Now I might not be much help on techie questions but Vegas is one thing I am becoming a bit of an expert on!

The application for the marriage licence can be printed off & filled in before you go, we used our passports/drivers licenses as ID and it was simple to get, no blood test either!

Chapel of the Flowers does look nice, Wee Kirk O'Heather looks nice too and little White chapel, but busy times they look a bit 'conveyor belt' like! don't forget all the hotels have chapels too. Top of the Stratosphere or the Eiffel tower at Paris??

Watch for the 'hawkers' selling their chapels outside the wedding license office, ask the concierge at the hotel for suggestions as they often have good ideas too! (give them a decent tip!)

We go married at the drive through in a stretch Hummer Limo with us sticking out the sun roof! :) My daughter was born out there too and we have an apartment there so visit pretty often so any q's just ask!

I keep threatening the current Mrs M with this......said I'd be booking the full fat Elvis in white one piece and big collars......

Thank you very much........:thumb:

That aside, I'm also non religious and don't like an overblown affair and having to buy dinner for my 200 "closest friends" etc.....

I think vegas is a great idea, I wouldn't even be put off with the Elvis tat, life is too short to take it all too seriously. You should do something that makes you smile and makes it a day to remember.

We'll be staying at the Luxor, their wedding chapel was just being finished the last time we were there. We could have our wedding breakfast at McDonalds.. :D

feb 2001 we stayed at the luxor and we were married at the little white wedding chapel,
20 feb went down to the county court house armed with passports, birth certificates and divorce papers from my previous marriage to get the licence [ there will be a queue ]
phoned wedding chapel and arranged for 6 o clock following evening [wedding window, hire of a dress and limo from and back to hotel]
next day limo an hour late, no wedding dress[ my broad yorkshire accent was mis-understood] wife to be refuses to marry in her trousers so re-arranged for next day
next day limo no show,we both blow our tops on the phone, oops guess who's watches are an hour fast because they haven't set them to pacific time zone  well there isn't any clocks in las vegas
anyway limo arrives [on time] notice in back saying driver expects a 20 dollar tip. wedding chapel are great, given a free upgrade to a chapel wedding with video recording, and free dress hire and photographer [20 dollar tip]. owners daughter and the photographer are our witnesses and the deed is done:D. back at the hotel we have a wedding breakfast in the sacred sea room restaurant [280 dollars ouch:eek: ] but it was a great week
do it, life is short ;)

Interested to know what the Luxor is like when you get there - they were starting to refit the last time (18 months or so ago) when we were there - remove some of the Egyption themes, nothing stays the same for long in Las Vegas.

Have a great time , sure you will :bannana:

Mike

remove some of the Egyption themes,
Mike

It's a pyramid....what other themes are there other then Egypt for a Pyramid?

(I was there when 9/11 happened - stayed in the Luxor and it was just great)

Well, have just got off the phone to the Chapel of the Flowers and we are booked in.. the clock is ticking!

Have to say I was very impressed with the lady I spoke to. Weddings are a bit of an industry in Las Vegas, but she was a model of courtesy and efficiency. Our wedding was booked up in under 10 minutes..

So apart from some minor details - such as organising the honeymoon, meh - all I have to worry about is the slightly scary prospect of becoming a married man (at 45 years old..).

What am I saying.. run for the hills! :D

Cheers,

Gaz

Congratulations.....Im getting married in a few weeks in Italy and our marriage license had to come from this country. We sat a test individually to find out how much we knew about each other and our names were listed for 15 days at the registery office to see if anyone objected.

It sounds like its different over in Vegas but how will they know your not allready married to someone else if you get the license when your there?

Video

A couple of friends did this a few years ago and the chapel arranged to have streaming (or soon after and for up to an hour) a video cast of the ceremony - so that friends at home could watch - they provide you with the URL and time of day it will be shown.

Quality not bad so must be even better now.

Cool, we find that pretty much everyone we have to deal with there is friendly too. If you need any tips on where to find X, who can do Y just ask, if I don't know a place I have a few people there I can ask for advice from too.

The Luxor looked as if it was trying to go a bit more 'up market' a la the newer hotel casinos when we were there in Dec/Jan so should be a nice place to stay!
