Not that many in my experience, it has to be said. But, your car insurance does get cheaper. I've just run the numbers for this year's renewal (due imminently) and for fully comp. on a 2006 SLK55, me and the Mrs. driving, the only black mark my one speeding ticket and 9 years NCB.

Cheapest quote I got from confused.com - £174! With Esure, who cover the Panda, so not a backstreet operation. The only black mark is a hefty £600 excess. I'll probably go with option 2, a £204 policy with £250 excess from... Saga :(. I did say I was getting old..

TBH I'm surprised they offer cover on a group 47 hooligan car, as I'd have thought they would specialise more in the Honda Jazz end of the market, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess. It'll save a few quid on my renewal too, Admiral have covered the car for the last 3 years but want £291 this year. I'll probably put the savings toward a new pair of slippers.. :bannana:

Cheers,

Gaz

I got my 57reg s320 insured for £213 with £250 excess with Diamond but it was for social only.

The quote is for SD&P and business use for me too! Admittedly the declared mileage is low (6000 total/1000 business) but I don't even do that much - the car's nearly 9 years old and has only just turned over 30K..

Cheers,

Gaz

lol it's funny that you older chaps are quoting figures for the year. Mine costs more than that per month...

(I'm as clean as a whistle too) :(

When I had the RX8 before the Merc, I was paying £465/month. Thankfully it's less than half of that for the Merc.

:eek::eek: £465 a month!!

And you now pay less than half:doh: Still over £2k a year then.

I'll never complain at the cost of insurance I pay again (£234pa for an E55)

Yep... It was crazy. Oh, I didn't mention the first payment which was £850. I only stuck it a year.

It's mainly down to my area, which is the highest insurance area grading there is...

I’m 52, live in a high-risk location (1.5 miles outside Manchester city centre), had a my-fault accident three years ago, so my premium isn’t going to be cheap. I switched from a VW Lupo 1.4TDI to current W124 220CE last September, paid the adjustment (£300 IIRC).

When this year’s renewal (beginning of April) came through, my insurer asked for an increase from £595 to £1550 TPFT! Called the company (AXA) and politely pointed out that their quote was not even in the right ballpark, they reduced it to £845 fully comp (basically a match for the lowest quote I got from a price comparison engine, excluding the bottom-of-the-barrel backstreet providers)

There’s a lot of room for negotiation.

I notice that the comparison engines don’t seem to work very well for older / rarer cars – there were only about 5 quotes in the list that were sensible – others were stupid money - £2K plus to insure an underpowered car worth maybe £1800.

Love the W124, favourite vehicle I've ever owned - as you become older, class / elegance assumes an increasing importance over bling / performance

Mine has gone up since last year, despite me being another year older (46 this year) and me getting rid of 3 of my 6 points for speeding (in previous cars).

I paid £176 last year and £186 this year with a £250 excess, 10000 miles SD&P on my C63 from More Than.

It's not only car insurance - with Saga you can also get cheap breakdown cover - and it's the AA that respond! Other benefits - free prescriptions (saves us about £30-40 per month), free eye tests, wife has a bus pass and I'll get one next year, plus all sorts of places offer discounted tickets for "senior citizens"!!!

Just try putting in S4 *** and see what they qoute you. Apart from your age, the biggest cost affect is postcode. I'm pretty sure you'd be having slightly more than a £10 increase. The postcode affect isn't so must a lottery, because we all know that where you live affects the premium, but we can't all choose where we live as easily as we can choose the cars we drive. Most of my neighbours in their 50's are paying over £1000 a year to drive a 'nice' car. I unfortunately found out after moving house that my insurance premiums more than doubled. Looking at some of the premiums others are posting i'd say theirs would quadruple or more!
