I gave girlie my Puma which she simply doesnt use, maybe once a week she will go to the shop as she lives very near the pub she works in and she has my car for the evening, with this very low mileage it will kill cars, they will just sit and rot but of she needs one she needs one so she has to have one and the puma is just wasted, was looking on Ebay in around this price bracket and there are a lot of Alfas, im assuming for a good reason, I suggested a Berlin Taxi, (190 or 124) but she said too big, she wants something Fiesta sized, I would like something easy to work on as I can do it, (was thinking Ford for this reason) do we have any ideas chaps and chapesses?

Diesel clio, corsa, fiesta. Vcheap and engines last forever.

I think Alfa Engines are made of chocolate :p

Get a VW Golf very easy to work on, cheap parts and reliable...:D

Cheers guys, we just sold her mk3 golf as it was dead, bit worried about French engineering though, heard some horror stories about repair bills and what if she has a crash? by my way of thinking they are made to look good and they didnt worry about safety at the age of the price bracket I am looking at?

I was hoping somebody would convince me to buy an old merc............

Get an old 190E in good nick, look after it and you'll always get your money back.

They just live forever!

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear!!!! thanks Will, I think she is put off by the size and some of the colour choices but I will try to look for a nice colour combo

Golf Mk II. Late model (post 87) when there were new engines and some body changes.

Unbeatable value and build quality. It is the ONLY car of that era that I still see plenty of trundling around.

Or if she likes pretty cars, the Golf Mk1 Clipper. Bit basic, but loads of character, and very little depreciation.
Incidentally, I have one up for sale. I'm after a grand though.

But if she thinks a 190 is too big then why buy her one? She's the one who's going to be driving it so get her what she wants. If it's going to sit and rot then get her a cheap Fiesta. Will cost pennies to keep on the road for when she does use it. Insurance supacheap etc.

Sorry I know that's not what you wanted to hear - but what's the point of buying what she doesn't want:rolleyes:

Other than Honda Accords and w124's ... Still plenty of D, E, F, G, H, reg ones of them around ....

Nah , no KA's for £500 yet .....

If there is it'll be a wreck ....

Cheers peops, I have been given more info, something about Fiesta size and the money has gone up to a grand, I was thinking Nissan NX-100? must also have lecy windows and power steering, now with another £500 thats a whole new ball game.....

That Ka is terrible .... only 69k but new engine at 59k , god knows what they have done to it ....

Needs work for MOT but doesn't tell you what it is ....

01207 is a Cornwall number , so bet it's rotten as hell with all the salt and damp ...

Not a fan of Kernow then Howard?

You want to watch out talking like that, you'll have the Kernow Cultural Society on your doorstep trying to tar and feather you and covering the Merc in shellfish!

EDIT- Just found the ad. "Little work needed for MoT". Really bugs me when people say this. If it needs so little work, do it!

Can't say I fancy the next one down either for £700. 106k on a ka? No ta.

With your new budget you should be able to get a Fiesta with 1.25 engine, electric windows and power steering.

I love Cornwall .... I lived in a caravan in a field there for some time ;)

Just outside Polzeath , working in a deli making sandwiches from 6am to 2 pm , then surfing and partying for the rest of the day and night !!

One of my closest mates (born and bred Cornish) is manager of a pub in Rock ( just along the coast ) so I am down there quite a lot ...

If I had a big lottery win , i'd move down there tomorrow .....

I just know what happens to cars in Cornwall .....
