Just been called by a mate who's tearing his hair out.

A neighbour has asked him to keep an eye on their 57-plate GL 320CDI 4-Matic while they're away for a month, leaving a key with him, and the alarm keeps going off at random. He's checked for obvious causes - such as an open window - but nothing found.

Any suggestions as to how to silence it temporarily?

It's driving him and the rest of the neighbours to distraction and he's taken to wearing the key on a lanyard when he's at home so he can reset it when it goes off. The only saving grace is that he doesn't live near me :D

:D Yeah, that was one theory, but not borne out by inspection.

So how do you disable the alarm?

If it is being activated from inside you can disable the interior passive, though on a GL I don't know where the button is.

On my E it's on the roof console - is the book inside?

That's what I've suggested he do, together with disabling the lifting sensor, I just wondered if anyone had a more "total" solution?

Set "Interior motion sensor" to off maybe? Look in the manual (hopefully in the glove compartment) to see how to disable it, but, normally it is displayed after turning off the ignition (then you press the minus key on the steering wheel to disable it) and simply lock the car afterwards. Same message (and option) comes up next ignition off.

Try removing alarm fuse.
