GLA 200 Reverse Camera calibration every time you start

I think all of those things except the camera calibration happen on many other cars....I've had a few of those on my Alfa and other cars I've worked on.

Interesting. How many newish non-MB cars do you see on the road with rusty wheelbolts? I had them replaced twice on the W203 (the first time was under the new car warranty).

Also, I've had a Toyota, a Suzuki, a Kia, a Hyunday, a Renault, and a Vauxhall... none had any of the issues I listed above.

I may just have been lucky though.

I am from Australia, recently purchased the new 2024 A200, I have the same problem of the rear camera noise too!! Very very annoying with the camera open and close while driving. I google about that in Australia and seems no one post anything though but I found alot of Mercedes car owners here from UK having the same issue!!! Don't know is this problem happen in world wide.

I have complained to the dealership, dropped my car back and sort of they have applied insulation to make the noise less, but still there!!!

Just wondering has anyone got the problem solved???

The noise is killing me!!
Hi, I was just wondering if you have had any luck getting this resolved completely now? We are in Aus too and just purchased a new GLA200 and it started doing this almost straight away, the dealer has only offered to apply some foam insulation as well. We can't believe it, it's so disappointing. So glad I found this forum at least

A gentleman in America posted this on MBWorld.org forums.

I picked up a 2025 GLE 450, last week and happy to report I do not have this issue. My rear camera does open (surround camera) when I pull into my garage (tight quarters) but has never opened while driving. I only have about 250 miles on it so far, but hope my luck continues!

I wonder if this means that MB have solved the problem on the 2025 models, I also wonder if that means those of us unlucky enough to buy a 2024 model can expect a recall to rectify the software fault.

It's possible that the 2025 simply has a different options configuration? My understanding is that not all cars did this, anyway. But let's hope that MB fixed it.

I’m not convinced they have solved it. I’ve monitored forums around the world for some time now and there are still many people complaining but we do know it’s only cars with certain options.
We also know now that Mercedes were fined heavily in the USA and sales banned for a while for the camera not working, or freezing, which was considered a safety hazard.
Mercedes solution was perhaps an overkill but to check the camera on each startup. They have done this on models across the Mercedes range. Unfortunately they chose to do it without any modification to the camera transport systems.
In the case of the GLA this probably means a lightweight transport system, poorly insulated, and housed in a hollow section of the hatch lid.
I suspect that even if they managed to make camera operation 100% they would continue to check on each startup given the size of the fine they incurred.
In my view Mercedes have failed completely in not explaining why there is that procedure, which wouldn’t have solved the noise problem but might have explained the serious problem they had on their hands. In today’s world though nobody seems to explain or say sorry

My GLA is now 8 months old although with all the camera hassle it seems much older.
Went back to the dealer last week for the following.

Ambient Lighting only partially working - corrected by a software update.
Attention Assist problematic - corrected by a software update to the ‘close distance radar sensor’.
Makes me wonder how many software updates there are if we only knew what to ask for.

More importantly there are no software updates for the reversing camera and none apparently foreseen, which is why I attached to this thread.

Followed a 2016 C class convertable this afternoon and that was flipping the rear camera every time the car slowed down, first time I've seen it in action.

Interesting. I had a 2016 C Class but that didn’t do it, although I didn’t have the 360 deg camera.
Are you sure it was 2016 or perhaps a newer model with a 2016 personal plate?

The plate was M5 MUX

Was yours a convertable? The camera maybe different?

My C Class is 2016, mine was doing it for a few months before it cured itself.

I purchased my last brand new C Class in November 2018 and it certainly didn't have this camera fault, unlike the bloody thing I've got now.

I recently posted on - A class rear view camera constantly opening at slow speed

Is it possible for ADMIN to combine these two threads somehow. They are essentially the same problem common to many models now. It’s almost worth a new thread simply labelled Reversing Camera Calibration On Every Start but containing all the posts to date.

Worth taking a look at the other thread, several people are talking now about a software fix just released.
