Hi All, I have the glass panoramic roof on my 2014 s205.
I've noticed that the leading edge panel between the sliding roof panel and the windscreen, also strips of glass roof either side of the sliding panel are delaminating with air bubbles appearing underneath the glass.
The car I believe spent it's first 3 years in Barcelona and I suspect the Spanish sun has played a part in this.
Has anyone else noticed this problem on theirs?

Hi, did you ever find a solution to this?

Something similar is starting to happen to the same panels/trims on my 2016 S205, which has only been UK based, but does live on the drive.

I have the same problem with my 2016 car which lives on the drive. NE England has many mor grey days than sunny ones. From
Close inspection it looks like the clear coat is coming away. I suspect the panel between the windscreen and moveable glass and along the sides between the glass and roof bars are plastic sprayed gloss black with a clear coat to give a high gloss. Not sure how it can be fixed easily as the sections would be hard to sand down and prep for a respray. Little chance that MB would stump up to cover the cost of repairs due to the age of the car. I remember someone posting about this problem in the past, replies to the post suggested wrapping the parts. I suspect a wrap would be very difficult because of the location of the affected parts.

Hi, from reading posts on this in the USA its quite common over there. I now believe the panel is plastic and is massively expensive to replace and so wrapping or painting is prob the only option. I think I would favour wrapping but need to speak to a local specialist.

Yep, pretty sure the parts are plastic and not the least bit surprised that they would be expensive to replace.

Had a closer look today and in bright sunshine, the main panel across the top of the windscreen looks like it’s suffering from degradation due to UV. It’s not a clear coat lifting, but more of a fine ‘crazing’ effect. Wrapping or replacing seem to be the only realistic solutions.

Q. Does anyone have the part numbers for these items or a page from the EPC?

I've looked at mine, looks like it's been sandblasted from all the crap on our roads, same as your windscreen if you look very closely.

Thanks for the input.

I don’t think the damage to mine is due to being sandblasted by crap from the road. The surface isn’t pitted.

The surface of the roof panel (between windscreen and panoramic roof) on my 2016 W205 is deteriorating rapidly as mentioned by others. It certainly seems to have reached end of life after just 7 years.
Has anyone successfully claimed against MB, or failing that had the panel successfully wrapped?
I also noticed today that some of the silver buttons on the drivers door window buttons have lost their silver effect (see photo) and just show a basic grey colour, must be some sort chemical reaction because buttons are rarely touched.
A month or so ago I noticed the black effect on the steering wheel spokes was peeling off. I thought that was some sort of plastic wrap but I’m wondering if it’s just a spray paint coating.
Disappointing quality. Ive had this car from new and it followed so many other Mercedes I’ve had from new but the quality on this, as above, is by far the worst.

Yes mine did it and I wrapped it. But it wasnt as successful as I had hoped. The delaminating process still keeps occuring underneath, so eventually the wrap does show the borders of the delamination from over it if that makes sense.

The buttons you mention are not glossy and never were - thats the original colour.

Thanks for the reply. That’s what I was worried about with wrapping. That surface is just flaking away. Very poor finish..
I imagine the best way would be to rub it down completely and then wrap it, but perhaps if we do that it might be better to spray it.
Memory might be playing tricks with the buttons but I’m sure all buttons and the surround were silver. The bottom one (child lock on windows) is definitely white, the top one (mirrors) is a grey/white. The other buttons and surround are silver.

Yh they are that colour from factory. Check the eBay switches they're all the same.

I think spraying is difficult because the part is bonded on so it needs removing. When its removed it can break.

Switches: I don’t doubt you but I am genuinely surprised I have never noticed in close on 7 years. Perhaps other W205 owners could comment if those two door window/mirror buttons are white and the rest silver?
Roof: Yes understood. It is an issue though. I stopped by my local spray shop today but picked a busy moment.
Will try again asap
