GLC 250d Wipers not working

I got a message of WIPERS MALFUNCTION on the dashboard but the wipers continued to work normally.
I tried to use them the next day and they failed , I get a noise of three clicks and no movement, The washer spray for about one second then stop.
Any ideas what this is and how to fix.
I have oiled the linkage and checked for obstructions.

Needs to be scanned, fault codes will be stored.
Could be motor, could be stalk, chaffed wires.

Is the bonnet closed properly?

I put this into a local garage and after three days I got the car back not fixed so I will now book with the main dealer.
