I had a Nissan X-Trail with OEM side steps. Every time I got in or out of the car I ended up with a dirty mark on the leg of my trousers. A friend had a Discovery with them and had the same experience. Th X-Trail gave me back pain so was sold. My friend stripped off his side steps. We were both rewarded with clean clothes!

If you are of normal height you don't need a step and it's counter intuitive to use it IMHO
