Gle63 mpg

Hello all, could someone please tell me the true mpg of gle63 2017/18? Thanks
There is no such thing. It will be dependant on the driver, traffic conditions etc.

If you are concerned about fuel consumption then it may not be the vehicle for you!

With the 5.5 engine, 295 wide rears, 2.3 ton curb weight, I reckon for mixed driving 17 to 21 mpg with 21 where you're doing a lot more motorway cruising. My 5.5 e63 S was 22mpg combined

Just curious if anyone on here had one and what there average mpg was,if was less than low teens then yes maybe your right and I’ll look at something else.

This may give an idea.

If you're doing mostly town driving it may be closer to 16mpg , if it's mainly a motorway cruiser then max realistic 21mpg IMO. However if it is a pure hoon machine then you could be looking at around 10mpg 😂

Unbelievably my trip computer clocked my average mpg on my 6.2l e63 at 19.1mpg over 3k miles. I think if I can get 19mpg from that engine , I can't see why you can't get similar results if you drive moderately

My new to me 4L e63 has averaged only 19.8 mpg for last 5k miles Screenshot_20250227-134145.png

8.8 mpg....yikes!

Worth pointing out US MPG (default setting , you can change it in the drop down and then it will be 10+ mpg for that disastrous set of estimates) is different to UK MPG but that 10mpg must be an anomaly in any case.

I'm almost disappointed that I only get twice the mpg from a large SUV of similar performance. I will admit that the Bentayga drinks from the black pump, but I'll put up with that for the 700 mile range......oh! and the 900Nm of torque!

Which Bentayga do you have ? The 6 litre I suspect

We’ve done close to 100,000 miles in one and when cruising long distances at UK motorway speed limits then you can expect around 19.x or 20.x MPG. Low speed urban journeys are around 13.x or 14.x so the spread is quite large depending upon your typical journeys. Wonderful cars though.

Yes I would think mid teens average, 20 on a run in the GLE.

Depends on how much you’re looking to use it as to whether or not it’s an issue.

Remember, they need premium (98) fuel also - so not just lower mpg but higher cost £/litre too :thumb:

When fuel was almost £2/litre I spent £600 in a week on fuel in my X166 GL63 (same engine)

My 2016 GL63 probably does around 15 and 16 running around but more like 20 to 21 on a trip. If you want to drive it like a Nanny you can get up to 26 to 27 or so sat on the motorway at 60 to 65mph or so or through average speed areas.

With this engine, aren't the known weaknesses and the rectification costs a bigger concern than mpg?

Don’t think they’re too bad generally but anecdotally there’s a few examples of tuned or badly maintained ones that have suffered.

Didn’t know about them,I thought they where pretty bulletproof, what are the weaknesses ?

My comment was influenced by my memory of the linked thread (below). Not sure if the engine you have in mind is the NA or turbo but both have known problems - head studs for the NA, internal weaknesses on re-mapped turbos. One of them I think has cam chain issues.
The linked thread is a long one and I've not read right through it but read enough to get the impression that AMG V8 purchasing has to be done with eyes wide open.
FWIW, I run an absurdly thirsty V8 SUV. I tolerate its thirst because on the whole it is reliable (in a never-leave-me-stranded sort of way), easy to work on with relatively cheap parts, and has moderate VED and insurance costs. I chose this over diesel because the risk of a big diesel bill wasn't acceptable to me. That set of priorities kinda excludes a 63 V8 for me. Your priorities are your own but be aware of the potential costs and - reluctant as I am to say this - what abuse such an engine may have endured with its previous owners.
