How can the obnoxious man still remain in the cabinet, yes I am talking about Dr (thats a laugh) John Reid. I have no confidence that this man will keep this country safe from anybody. The only qualification he needs is being a yes man to T Blair, or it seems that way. Another bad day.

A SCOTS person in charge of English Law   :) What an absolute joke. A reformed alcoholic, a reformed smoker and whoops.... drugs in my apartment?? Talk about lunatics running the asylum.

Plane hijackers being allowed to get off scott free then live on state benefits all because of human rights legislation???

The government screams 'disgrace' but who bought in the Human Rights Legislation and vehemently defended the decision stating that the act would never be abused? What is the main law firm that specialises in human rights legislation? Clue, Cherie Blair

Dr Reid has wrecked every department he has led, Northern Ireland, Health and just look at the Ministry of Defence? Iraq is allegedly a better place since Saddam Hussein? I dread to think of what will happen to the Home Office, perhaps we will come into line with the Scottish Judicial system?:)

Although I agree his personal manners and bullying approach make him one of the last people I waould want to see in power, I hope that we are not moving toward sthe American model of holier than though, pious, never even picked a flower requirements for our politicians. No , can't be, they still have six pints Prescott.
On the other hand on my personal measure, i.e. Would I like to be trapped next to these people on a transatlantic flight? I'd have to say yes. Larry Ellison still tops my list of people I would least like to sit next to.

Anyone that has overcome alcoholism should be commended, and that has nothing to do with why I dislike this person so much.

Regarding your other remarks about moving towards the American model of holier than thou? I'm afraid I do not understand where your coming from. American politicans are certainly no better or worse than our own, their President is a reformed addict?

I would however like to think our politicans are 'holier than thou' in regard to not having any type of Police record, and behaving in a respectable fashion. (Not cruising around Hampstead Heath trying to pick up a 'companion') This last remark does NOT apply to my good friend the Doctor, plus of course behaving themselves in public.

I am referring to the American habit of investigating in detail the social, career and personal background of candidates with a view to ‘finding the dirt’ and subsequently exploiting this dirt. While large sections of the community may find it interesting and fascinating, it often has little to do with the reality of how individuals perform their job but the information is often used ruthlessly and mercilessly to deflect interest away from the real issues in an aim to undermine the candidate. It possibly serves to exclude many who could provide valuable service but have at sometime demonstrated their human frailties. I find these practices less than satisfactory.

I see where your coming from and understand your point. Some things are indeed very personal, but I do believe though that very senior government officials (not just ministers, but civil servants) must be whiter than white otherwise they are wide open to the threat of blackmail, or 'favours'.

I would love to know what Prescott has over Tony Blair :) :)

John

Unions in his paypocket! Not that the TGWU would publicly say they wouldn't support TB if 2 Shags was booted, but they do say it behind clsoed doors.

Anyhow, prepare for when GB gets in, coz thats the last of the labour government for a while. He may be a decent bloke but he aint no PM. Nor a TB either.

Has this thread got political enough to get closed yet???
