There is a little socket like a headphone plug size inside the glovebox on the left. Anyone know what this does. The car has a comand or screen type stereo with sat nav, tel, tv, fm etc. Is it for an ipod or something?

to plug in an mp3 (ipod etc) :-)

I have a c class coupe and it has what appears to be a headphone jack on the lefthand side of the glove box. It'ss an 3.5mm so auxiliary input socket to the Comand system. I use it to connect to my ipod with a cable similar to this one. There is obviously no control of the ipod via this connection, but its a lot cheaper than a specific ipod solution and can also work with anything that output via a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Woah.. hold on.. is this only for models with command? or will my car have it to? W208 55 AMG?

Not just Comand, depends on model and year, but on a W208 only Comand would have it.
