glow plug light

Phoned ,my mechanic about light staying on after car engine started,he informed me that 1 or maybe 2 glowplugs were failing or it could be the glowplug relay.He advised me to book vehicle in replace all 6 glowplugs and the relay which i did .
Problem is sorted memory in car cleared with his star machine,this all took 1 hour.IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR A GREAT INDEPENDENT IN SCOTLAND WITH A TRULY EXPERT SERVICE LOOK NO FURTHER>

yes, thats bad. i doubt both were failed.... it would be the glow plugs OR the relay.... very unlikely it would be both.

Both replaced under advice of mechanic both were not failed .you cant run a mercedes on ford money ,maybe i am over the top with my car but it is worth it .

One of my glowplugs failed as a 'dead short' (rather than an open circuit failure), this caused one of the fusible links inside the relay to 'blow' which resulted in the light still staying on after starting even after i replaced all 5 glowplugs at the same time. The relay is a sealed unit and the 'official' repair was to buy a new relay but i opened it up and immediately saw the blown fused link, i simply soldered in a fuse over the break and the relay works perfectly now.
