Glow Plug Light

Hi,

Does the glow plug light on a Mercedes Vito 1999 have a dual function?

I.e. That the light is indicating that there is a problem with the engine that has nothing really to do with the glow plugs or its associated parts.

Or is it just for issues on the glow plug circuit?.

It will stay on for around a minute indicating that there is a fault with the glow plugs and/or relay.

Mine is staying on continuously I just wanted to check before I start investigating the issue. As to whether the light is isolated to the glow plug and associated parts. Or whether is also used to indicate other issues within the engine.
