Going to look at a CLK55

Thanks John.

Just remembered another thing which struck me as odd - the gear shift knob had an 'Avantgarde' logo on the top
Is this normal?

I've run the VIN through the decoder and it all checks out on there.

I think all the CLK55's were Avantgarde trim. However whether they should have an AMG shift knob or not, I dont know.

I don't think there are any oem AMG shift knob buttons, although I could always check! There are some cute special edition ones though and at only £4 or something each they might be worth looking into ;)

Is it not worth the price of an independent inspection?

Surely that would bring up a list of faults / problems. From there you could gauge the price on what work needs to be carried out and adjust your offer accordingly.

Yes, are Avantgarde trim. Gearknob is standard Avantgarde item, not AMG.

that's a bit pooh. Even on a C36, it had a specific leather knob with C36 embossed on it.

that's why I changed it to a wooden one ...

But with no history how would I ever sell it? It'd have to be spectacularly cheap.......

keep it 'forever' .... :D

It's only going to be an interim* purchase until I can afford a CL55

I was on MR2OC and TOC (Toyota Owners Club) mostly but I didn't post much as there were too many young lads asking about veilside body kits and 'what's the loudest dump valve'.....

One of the reasons I sold my SW20 a few years ago. Great car though. Was drooling over some old photos only yesterday.

Have you tried having a chat with your 'friendly' very nice local dealer's service department? Explain how you are interested in the vehicle but are concerned about the lack of history. They should be able to look on their database?

Good luck,
John

won't be much help unless the car was serviced at that dealership as MB service records aren't linked up.

My strategy too, but for a SL55 with panaromic roof :D

I'm currently being tempted to chop my estate in for either an (old shape - sorry don't know the numbers - W209?) CLK55 AMG or a CLK500 Cab. Just need to find one with low miles and decent spec and I will be seriously tempted...
