But what's it worth?

I bought the Merc when I was unemployed in order to spend some time on it to fix it up, but since then I've realised I'm crap at mechanics and it also appears I've got myself a job.

I don't know what it's worth though, could anyone help?

1992 300TE 4matic Estate (Green)
150k miles
Green Leather
Sunroof
About an inch thick pile of docs including original purchase invoice for £37k, wow
11 month MOT
11 month tax
Electric drivers seat with that lumbar support thingi
brand new JVC DAB radio + CD + USB
New exhaust backbox + front section
New aircon condenser
New Oils everywhere
New Battery
New Radiator
New Thermostat

Bad bits:
Front wings both have rust (Dent on one wing)
Air con dual zone plays up (Always warm on passenger side?)
SRS Airbag light comes on almost all the time
Yellow Triangle was on for weeks, then went off for last week, and now it's back
Heated seats work when they feel like it (Not working at moment)
Little bits of rust on the two rearmost windows and a little on the tailgate window.
The plastic sills (Which have the chrome inserts that you can see when you open the door - The chrome is peeling off on all 4.
Rev counter doesn't feel like working.

I've spent £1k on it in the past few weeks. (Have Receipts)

Ideally I'd like to swap it have it px/be offered a smaller car in PX for it. My new job has me travelling about 80 miles a day and while the Merc does it, it's just too big to cart only me around (Single/no family) and was only meant to be a little project for me anyway. Also I notice cracking on the tyre sidewalls (I think previous Black to black covered it up, although the tyres have tons of tread)

So, while I wait for eBay to fix their system (Keeps timing out on me when uploading pics) Does anyone have a guide price? There are only 2 on there at the moment, a LHD at £1850 and a RHD at £2500.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, eBay has come back alive, so I've popped the advert on at £1750, I have no idea if this is realistic or not, but it's worth a start and I can always come down.

Nice looking car, saw one of these in a garage in Devon not so long ago, had been standing for ages (years), is it the same one?

Yup :) That's probably the same one. Apparently been in a barn for 3 years or something. Have a look in the detailing section on here, it was in a bit of a state, but the previous owner had no expense spared, you should see the documentation! I'd love to keep it, but I wanted to do a lot of the work myself and just realise I'm a mechanical retard and paying people to do the work for me is uneconomical.

Ahh, well done, something of a transformation, good luck with the sale

I would lose the picture of the cluster or at least at least take one when the engine is running

The engine is running as I had just come back from Nottingham and decided to take the pics immediately. I'm often "too" honest, as I mentioned in the ad, the airbag light comes on sometimes as does the yellow ! light and no working rev counter. I'd rather people see if there and know all about it.

It is not I`m afraid :( all I`m trying to say is that people will run for the hills if they see the oil pressure

It's idling after a 55 min drive down the motorway, ot's always done that and is only at 3 when it has the sligtest hint of revs. But I see what you're saying :) I might remove it, thanks for the comments, appreciate it. Any idea's on the price? Am I way out would you say?

If you move the test lever under the bonnet to the "test position" it will effectively disable the 4wd SYSTEM and you could run the car as a 2 wheel drive estate - lots of owners do. Stick 4 budget tyres on it and your sorted-- for the meantime---- if everything else is OK. Because the 4matic can be very expensive to sort and it appears to be faulty then best pricing it as a standard estate would be my approach unless you are prepared to fix it. :dk:

The 4wd seems to work ok. On sunday I was out in some country lanes and parked up at the side of the road (Went walking if you must know, before someone says "Dogging" :) ) When I came to leave it was muddy and my passenger had to stand outside as the passenger door was parked right next to the hedgerow. They said all 4 wheels span as I slipped a bit on the mud. Also the 4matic light used to be on until I replaced the brake switch (Think it was you that suggested it) and it's been off ever since.

I'd love to keep it, but it just doesn't make sense (Plus with an 80 mile commute) :(

A chap I was speaking to the other day has modified the wiring to allow him to manually lock each diff as required rather than the car thinking about it and deciding. This means that he is virtually unstopable in snowy icy weather with the correct tyres, just the SRS light and front wings left........

Fair enough - In this financial climate things are a bit slow BUT working 4matics are rare- hopefully you will find a buyer who wants one. Your price is probably a good starting point- if you are "fending them off " in droves then price to the highest bidder.:thumb:

I drove one of these new in 1990 and thought it was epic... It also cost more than my house back then! Good luck with the sale.
