"hard gold plating" has been around for years in hi-fi components, high end electricals etc

it's not strictly 24 carat because due to the plating process you get some "alloying" with the base metal. The gold becomes something like 23.9 carat which actually doubles it's hardness

That's news to may father (a goldsmith of 50 years).

What you're referring to is a mixture of cobalt and gold...which then won't be 24 carat. It looks like marketing speak to me.....

Along the lines of it's 24 carat until it's mixed with the cobalt.
