Not as stupid as it may seem, the connector will possibly more durable than the standard plastic ones. I have had a number which the tiny peg has worn away and the cable wont stay in.

But 24K gold is soft, itā€™s desired for its purity and lack of electrical resistance not its durability.

On analogue cables gold plated connectors are better because they donā€™t suffer from the oxidisation that attacks ā€lesserā€ connectors. Thereā€™s no advantage having them on optical cables, just a bit of marketing to make them appear better.

If it was gold plated on metal, but looks to me as gold coating on original plastic connectors.

It is optical so not carrying current / voltage.....just light on the fibre.

The gold on the connector is not going to make the slightest difference to the performance.

Indeed, but what has that got to do with fleecing the gullible?*
