Awesome back in their day but my goodness they look hideous now. My sister had one in black also. Never cleaned it though, that was my dads job.

112hp for the 1.8 litre 8 valve engine although kerb weight was under 900 Kg.

Glorious back in the day.

A good use of £/5k? Not so sure.

Is that an equivalent Mk2 at half the price we hear in the distance?

Lhasa Green is the definitive mk2 colour after all.

Good if you need a ULEZ compliant car @Darrell 😉

MK2 was QAK GREEN 1990 in Europe and 1991 in the UK 🙂
A J-reg Mk2 Golf GTi 16v in Oak Green with black leather, the all important big bumpers and Alojne stereo was my dream car when I was a teenager at school.

I used to catch a bus, two trains and another bus to get to TVR Central in Perry Barr, Birmingham to look at their stock, and they had a used one for a while. Beautiful.

I don’t have particular OCD issues but that car gets to me a bit.

It’s because it’s actually such a good condition car but there’s almost something niggling in each photo - eg immaculate wheels but nasty budget tyres, the exhaust doesn’t look like it fits quite right at the back and they’ve left stickers on it, pedal rubbers need a good scrub, K&N sticker on the air inlet, ideally a set of period number plates.

Nothing major, but for £25k I’d spend a little time and money to make it as correct as it should be :)

£25,000? This nice looking example sold for less than £8,500 including fees a little over a year ago.

And I swear the ones without the (optional) power steering felt as though all of that 900kg was on the front wheels.

"Never meet your heroes" springs to mind.

A friend had one (although he put 16V badges on his!) and I remember it as quite loud, not overly comfortable and not that quick.
