Good mpg (now the weather is warmer!)

Parvez, what kind of speed do you travel on the motorway? Do you use cruise?

That goes to anyone else on this thread?

I travel at 80mph on cruise and my car will never do more then 45 mpg. Gutted.

I tend to vary between 65-75mph.. The photos i posted at the beginning of this thread were without cruise.
I've found using cruise control isn't great for getting close to the official mpg.
I've got a long road trip upto scotland this wk end so i'll do some more 'research' cruise on and off mpg level under test conditions!

I'm impressed with the economy of my manual W204. Currently averaging over 60 on the OBC since new 28k miles ago (about 6% optimistic) on about 60% motorway travel. Best on a gentle run was 80 from cold start.

is that an indicated 80 or a real 80 (speedo or sat nav?).

I drive at an indicated 73 or such, occasionally a little slower. I use cruise most of the time but not always. I reckon my mpg falls by 5mpg if i go 80 rather than below 75. I also reckon that you have to concentrate to get best mpg, whether cruise or not be prepared for having to ease off early and slow rather than brake etc.

A few mph and a bit of care can work wonders!

Ah that's the difference. Same with me. these guys must virtually be walking!

Theres a big difference if you reset whilst the cars warmed up ;)

It was indicated so a little on the high side. I have done quite a bit of calibration speed to mpg and also notice a significant elbow point at around 75, after which fuel consumption increases markedly.

Second pic here was OBC average at time of first service at almost 12 months from new. They re-flashed my ECU at that time and since then I've been getting an average on OBC of 62.8 which I hope will increase now the block takes less time to warm up and summer deisel is here.

I struggle to beat 15 town and 25 motorway :(, I blam the exhaust note, it's too addictive.

What does the picture of a cup mean?

It's the attention assist feature - tells the driver that it's time for an espresso if they've not changed gear or throttle setting and haven't blinked for a while etc. I'm sure it's a great feature but it has activated several times during steady motorway cruising and I've been fully awake on all occasions.

May be its pointing towards the passenger! my wife is comatised shortly after we set off:D not that i'm complaining.

Speedo 80. I might try a strict 70 on my next trip... I find it far to slow and i get bored.

I find that traffic will flow at 80....

Just to report back on mpg for trip back from Scotland today..

Mixture of cruise on and off, got into a few 'my car is faster than yours battles' lol
But all in all not bad at 50mpg for 8 hr trip with a few traffic jams in between!

2nd photo is for the whole trip plus driving around the scenic parts plus the dukes pass... Which is totally awesome!!!

that's why i go for an indicated 73 - 70 does feel a bit too slow but i dont like wasting fuel!

I was also thinking the warm weather was aiding mpg when I got 26mpg on a gentle run from Manc to Nottingham... not quite 56mpg though :D
