GOODBYE MONDEO

Memories of being a kid in a Mondeo Verona 😞

Had a couple as company cars, a 2002 model that was probably the best all-round car you could wish for. Also had a 59 plate titanium, this was a fair bit less nimble but still a good car, shared a platform with Volvo iirc. By this point they were already less common than 3 series BM so I am surprised they have lasted this long.

Have driven a few in the distant past, but never owned a Mondeo. A little sad to see it go, but happens I guess...

I had a new one in 1997 1.6 I drove the wheels off it for six years and then sold it to a neighbour who had it for two years, then wrote it off in a shunt.

Mondeo? Already gone? Only yesterday it was the new kid on the block, replacing the trusty Sierra.

At any rate... for people my age, the Cortina is the true rep car. The boss had a Consul (Mk2), obviously.... and the young at heart bought a Capri.

I have had a couple over the years the last one was a 2004 diesel, that was a great car, chain driven, handled well, and never gave a moments trouble, sad to see Mondeo is going.

I dont think ive ever been in a mondeo, maybe a taxi? But not knowingly.

That's quite strange really!

Had one as well. Held onto it for 7 years which is by far the longest I have held onto any car! Drove it into the ground as they say. Fantastic to drive, great comfort and space but wasn't the most reliable. Had the dreaded flywheel issue which ultimately cost me two starters as well.

I've had about 6, all used as taxis, all ultra reliable if maintained correctly, and my next taxi will also be a mondeo (currently an insignia) in about three years time. Love them!

Driven up and down the country for years picking up cars we’d purchased in our superb ‘57 plate ‘Mondingo’. Bought it to use as a roundabout with 180k on the clock, kept it serviced very regularly and the car performed beautifully until it blew a piston at the beginning of last year with 295k on the clock. Loved driving it, swift, brilliant on fuel, acres of room and as comfortable as you like. RIP.

I've had 2 Mondeo's , both great cars right up until the moment they both caught fire !!!!!

(Both my fault though :) )

Sold just over 2000 in the UK in 2020.
A while back I had heard the number was around 1600/1700 (probably gone up since I heard that figure) and that there are about 800 ford dealers who each had one as a demo, meaning actual new sales to the public were 800/900.
PCP's & the like meant that the monthly payment on a MB/BMW/Audi were similar to a Ford & the buying public prefer German brands............

And the working mans rally-boy car, the mk2 Escort. Working man’s got to work a bit harder these days to have an old Ford though.
